What to prepare before hiring a developer

A short checklist that saves time, budget and back-and-forth on your project.

A little preparation before your first call makes quotes more accurate and projects run smoother. Here is what to have ready.

1. Your goal in one sentence

For example: "Let customers book and pay for car rentals online." A clear goal keeps everyone focused.

2. Who will use it

Customers, staff, managers or partners? Each type of user may need different screens and permissions.

3. Must-have features

Separate what is essential for launch from what can come later. This keeps the first version affordable and fast.

4. Examples you like

Links to websites or apps you like (and why) help designers understand your taste quickly.

5. Existing systems and data

Mention any software, spreadsheets or data that must be connected or imported.

6. Budget range and timeline

Even a rough range helps a developer suggest the right approach rather than an over- or under-sized solution.

7. Your brand assets

Logo, colours, fonts, photos and text. If you do not have them yet, ask whether design and content support are included.
